Self Portrait

We started a new project today that will last the next couple weeks.  We first learned about Leonardo da Vinci and looked at some of his drawings and paintings. Then we learned about drawing a self portrait. We talked about proportions of a face and a bit about what the eyes nose and mouth look like. The students had photos of themselves as reference to look at as they drew there own faces. It went well a few students were concerned about it looking exactly like them but they all did a great job and realized that it took da Vinci a lot of practice to make his faces look life like. Next week we will collage on our paper and put some color on our faces.

  1. The students were a bit hesitant to draw their portraits at first, but after they felt more comfortable with the basic shapes of their faces, they were able to really get drawing. The students were talking about Leonardo da Vinci the next day during class and they loved this project and couldn't wait to add collage to their portraits.
