ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM!

Today was my first day teaching Mrs. Keele's 3rd grade class and my first day ever teaching an elementary school class. It was Awesome and everything seemed to run smoothly. We learned about abstract expressionism. We learned how a single line can express emotion and how a painting doesn't always have to be of an object. The children were able to do their own abstract expressive paintings in fall colors. I was amazed at how quickly they developed into making creative pieces of art. They started out a bit timid but as they realized the possibilities of what they could make they got their whole bodies into it literally. They were using large brush strokes and eventually started using their hands.
Here are some beautiful examples of the expressive, abstract painting that we made.

  1. Wow, I love the colors your students used. It's also amazing how their pictures are so different, even though they use the same colors. It sounds like you are off to an exciting start! Do you think you could post a calendar page on your blog so we can see when you're planning on going? Thanks!
